Arvada Ballot
Question 3F

Ballot Question 3F- Passed
Referendum Procedures
Chapter V, Section 5.14

The current Arvada City Charter states:

"..a petition calling for a referendum of an ordinance is signed within thirty (30) days from the effective date of the ordinance..."

A YES vote will increase the time for citizens to gather the signatures needed to file a Referendum Petition from 30 days to 60 days.

  • Legislative ordinances enacted by city council are subject to referendum, which means after a valid petition Is filed, the City Council is given the opportunity to repeal the ordinance, and if it does not do so, the question of whether the ordinance should become effective Is placed on the ballot for a vote of Arvada citizens.

  • A valid petition requires a number of signatures based on a percentage of registered voters in the City of Arvada. Given the City of Arvada's population growth, the Charter Review Committee believes that allowing more time for the filing of a Referendum Petition is reasonable.
